AERODISP® Fumed Silica and Metal Oxide Dispersions

Since 1953, dispersion chemistry at Evonik has been based on fumed silica. Today, we provide various dispersions for many different applications. They are manufactured using innovative technologies and are produced under the AERODISP® trademark. They can be based on either water or organic solvents and contain AEROSIL® fumed silica or AEROXIDE® fumed metal oxides.

AEROSIL® and AEROXIDE® powders bring many advantages and assure a smooth development of formulation technology. For customers that encounter difficulties using powder products, fumed oxide dispersions provide a solution. Evonik not only has extensive knowledge but also sophisticated equipment, both are necessary to produce high-quality silica dispersions as well as TiO2 and alumina dispersions.

AERODISP® and VP Disp. (experimental grades) products are the ideal solution for dust-free handling of AEROSIL® fumed silica and AEROXIDE® fumed oxides (aluminum oxide and titanium dioxide). Evonik’s know-how in dispersion chemistry enables us to provide high-quality products. Solutions in organic solvents are also available on request.

Dispersion

The silica, TiO2, and alumina dispersions have a uniform particle size distribution, which is essential for a reproducible application. The high loading (up to 50 wt%) with AEROSIL® and AEROXIDE® fumed materials provides high flexibility to any formulation technology and coatings development. The special manufacturing process ensures the dispersions have a lower viscosity compared to conventional approaches.

Fumed oxide dispersions can be used within a variety of coatings and spraying applications or as an addition to other formulations to create the desired effect. Their uniform size distribution, low viscosity, and high loading results in flexible application within a broad range of uses. The dispersion products can be used as delivered or be diluted with other desired formulations or binder systems.

Evonik invests in expertise and knowledge, which means high-quality dispersions with AEROSIL® fumed silica and AEROXIDE® fumed metal oxides. When it comes to the use of dispersed inorganic materials, homogenization is necessary before use. Over time the dispersions will develop concentration gradients and might show slight sedimentation. With these dispersions, good homogenization is enough to assure reproducible and preservative usage. With this in mind, Evonik’s dispersion chemistry can help develop a promising future for your formulation technology.
